(Kitco News) - Founders Metals is building momentum at its flagship Antino project located in Suriname, said CEO Colin Padget.
In early February CEO Colin Padget spoke to Kitco Mining.
Founders Metals (TSX.V - FDR) operates in the Guiana Shield, which is an analogue to West Africa, a famous mining region across the Atlantic. Barrick, Newmont and B2Gold are some of the miners operating in West Africa.
"Plate tectonics is what pulled the two regions apart," said Padget. "West Africa is a well-established, well-understood jurisdiction for gold, whereas the Guiana Shield has a lot of un-explored and under-explored areas."
Founders Metals' flagship asset is its 20,000-ha Antino gold project in Suriname, where artisanal surface and alluvial mining has produced over 500,000 gold ounces to date. Founders Metals is exploring aggressively using its diamond drilling equipment. The company drilled over 10,000 m in 2023 and is fully financed for up to 30,000 m in 2024. The exploration program is showing good results. In February the company reported hitting 15.0 metres of 8.18 g/t gold and 26.0 metres of 5.52 g/t gold.
"We've had a lot of drilling success in the last few months, but we are just getting started," said Padget.
